GOT EXTRA CANDY?

This Sunday, Adopt-a-Chaplain Ministries is collecting leftover Halloween candy for our troops serving overseas. These sweet treats are something our troops look forward to receiving every year through our chaplains. Drop off your donations in the marked barrels in the Worship Center Lobby or in the church office next week.

MAKE IT BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR SOMEONE Beautiful DayTHIS YEAR

In the shadows of the homes and struggling businesses that make up the Silicon Valley, a greater problem is growing. In the affluence that surrounds Los Gatos, people are homeless. Others struggle to put food on the table for their own children. Even days that are full of sunshine, for some, are filled with gloom and increasing despair.

Last year, the economy left even more families in our community destitute, searching for hope. Some can't afford simple basics like food and clothing. Others have lost homes and now live on the streets. Whole neighborhoods have been taken over by gangs, leaving remaining residents captive in homes they are unable to sell.

Beautiful Day is an initiative run by churches in our community to improve the quality of lives for those living around us. Each November, these South Bay churches work together on specific projects to make a difference and be the church.

This year, Calvary Church has chosen to participate in two community projects:

House of Hope

CANNING HUNGER FOOD DRIVE
November 8-15

Every week, people from our community visit the House of Hope in need of food, clothing and other services. Last year, Calvary Church entered Beautiful Day week with an audacious goal...bring in 20,000 pounds of food needed to feed hungry people in our community for one year. By the end of the month, we were able to stock the House of Hope and other local service organizations with 22,000 pounds of food.

This year, we hope to do the same. Pick up a plastic bag after service on Sunday to fill with non-perishable and canned food. Take a few extra and invite your neighbors to participate. Together, we can "can hunger" in our community!

Project Restoration

PROJECT RESTORATION 95127
November 14 from 9am-1pm

Several neighborhoods in East San Jose have felt the impact of the economy. As the number of foreclosures grew, so did crime and gang violence. This summer, Beautiful Day came beside Cryy Out Fellowship in the 95111 zip code to clean up homes that had been left abandoned, and encourage the residents still remaining in these neighborhoods.

During Beautiful Day week, Calvary Church will join other churches in cleaning up neighborhoods in another zip code: 95127. Volunteers can mow, pull weeds, paint, and pick up trash. A bus will leave the church at 8:30am and meet at White Road Baptist Church at 9:00am.
