CALVARY VOLUNTEER REACHES THE WORLD
FROM A COMPUTER
By: Rick Hinz
Did you know that you can advance God's kingdom while you're sitting at home?
Do you realize that you can fulfill the Great Commission to take the Gospel "into all the world" by turning on your computer? Volunteers for Global Media Outreach (GMO) do just that. When pople from around the world contact GMO through the Internet with questions about Christianity, nearly 2,200 GMO volunteers worldwide are ready to respond.
Ray Regalado, one of ten GMO volunteers at Calvary, says the ministry is an easy and exciting way to witness to others, including many who know very little about Jesus or the Bible. "It's fabulous," he says. "You are not on the spot. You [have time to] do the research and then ask the Holy Spirit to put into words what you've learned. You don't need a special gift to do this."
Every year, two million people in about 200 countries report coming to Christ through GMO. Ray corresponded with one woman in Nairobi, Kenya, who was grateful to find someone she could talk with about spiritual matters. She now tells others about God. "It's only one way of doing what God wants us to do," he says. "People are being reached."
Although GMO now operates out of many sites, it was founded by Walt Wilson, a member of Calvary Church, in October 2003 at part of Campus Crusade for Christ. A couple months ago, GMO launched a cell-phone program to expand its reach to three billion people around the globe.
"We will not know on this side of eternity how we have helped others," says Ray. "When we do get to paradise we'll be one family."
