God really blessed our Advent Conspiracy projects this year and we can truly rejoice that Calvary Kids alone raised $2,400! That's an amazing amount for our preschool-5th grade kids. It's almost enough to provide two wells for people in Cambodia to have clean water. Celebrate with your kids their part in helping to change the world this Christmas!

A Note from Laura:

Happy New Year! I heard that yesterday was considered "Blue Monday," the most depressing day of the year. It's the day when the holiday parties are all over, the credit card bills from Christmas come due and when most people realize they've already broken their new year's resolutions. I, for one, had a great "Blue Monday" yesterday with my family and so far am still keeping my resolutions. We'll see how the rest of the month goes!

If you're still thinking about what your resolutions might be, I would encourage you to resolve to connect with other people at Calvary this year! For some that's in a small group, enjoying donuts together on Sunday morning, talking around the table at MOPS or bringing your child to Playhouse Calvary so you can meet other parents in the area. Yet  many others  have found that an amazing way to connect is to serve. I encourage you to think about how you might be able to change the lives of kids at Calvary and begin serving in Calvary Kids. We have a variety of openings available this Spring that might be just the perfect fit for you! Take a moment to chat with Joy or I and we'll help to get you connected through serving!

This Month in Calvary Kids

Preschool:

This month we're focusing on Jesus and specifically the stories that revolve around water. Your kids will learn about how Jesus called his disciples, how He calmed the sea, how He walked on water and how Jesus helped the disciples catch a whole boatload of fish. These stories reinforce that Jesus is our friend, our companion, all-powerful and all-knowing and we can trust and obey Him. We encourage you to review these stories with your kids at home to support what they're learning on Sundays!

Elementary:

For the month of January our virtue is Self-control: Choosing to do what you should do and not what you want to do.  And this month's memory verse is "My dear brothers and sisters, pay attention to what I say. Everyone should be quick to listen. But they should be slow to speak. They should be slow to get angry." James 1:19, NIV

Each week we'll be focusing on a passage from Proverbs that address real life situations where we need to self-control. We'll also look at passages in James, Galatians and 2 Peter. We'll talk with your kids about the fact that God gives us the power to control ourselves, pause before we lose our temper, select our words carefully, the power to know when to stop and finally we can use the Bible to guide our thoughts.

As we focus on growing in wisdom and hear stories of Solomon and others, we hope your kids are challenged to know that God has already given them all the tools they need to follow Him! We encourage you to talk about a time in your life when you needed to practice self-control and God gave you the power to do so.

Come join the Fun! If you're looking to connect with other parents of preschoolers, we invite you to our amazing indoor playgroup for kids ages 1-5 here in Calvary's gym on the 1st   and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9:30am-11:30am! The kids have a great time with our bounce houses, ride-on toys, crafts and train tables, and the day wraps up with a lively Circle Time. We hope you'll come and meet other families from our community! Cost is $1 per child.
